By combining behind-the-scenes observations with fragments from the exhibition, the film creates a deliberately open point of entry. It invites audiences to form their own expectations and encounter the exhibition directly, without a predetermined explanation.

The film focuses on Profusion, the exhibition at Muzeum Susch dedicated to Croatian artist Edita Schubert.

Guided by curator David Crowley, it follows the exhibition through its spaces and works, situating Schubert’s practice within its artistic, material and historical contexts. Rather than presenting a chronological biography, the film highlights the decisive shifts that shaped her work over three decades.

From early hyperrealist painting and conceptual systems to works made with natural materials and her later large-scale canvases, the film shows how Schubert repeatedly transformed her visual language while maintaining a consistent artistic position. Themes of repetition, blockage and thresholds run through the exhibition and are explored through close observation of the works.

Crowley’s commentary contextualises Schubert’s international visibility in the 1980s and the political conditions of late Yugoslavia without reducing the work to historical illustration. The film also addresses Schubert’s late autobiographical works, in which memory, identity and visibility move to the centre.

The film offers audiences clear access to Schubert’s practice and contributes to the wider recognition of an artist whose work remains underrepresented outside its regional context.
