Jadwiga Maziarska – Assembly

A staged cinematic prologue to the exhibition at Muzeum Susch

The teaser translates Jadwiga Maziarska’s working process into a tactile visual language. In a setup created specifically for the camera, people wearing white archival gloves handle selected objects. Macro movements, changing light and shadow play reflect the layering, composing and assembling within her practice.

The film does not document the actual exhibition installation. It condenses material, gesture and atmosphere into an invitation to enter Maziarska’s work.

This film takes viewers through Jadwiga Maziarska’s retrospective at Muzeum Susch—the first comprehensive presentation of her work outside Poland. Filmed in the museum’s atmospheric spaces, it traces the development of Maziarska’s artistic language across painting, collage, textiles and sculptural assemblage. Archival fragments, medical diagrams, thread, wax and sand become part of a visual vocabulary that resists simple classification and resonates through the film’s quiet, tactile editing. Rather than following a strict chronology, the film weaves biography, historical context and material detail into a layered narrative. Developed in close collaboration with the curatorial team, the voice-over guides viewers through key ideas and turning points in the artist’s life—from her studies in law and psychoanalysis to her post-war experiments with abstraction and material.

The camera moves slowly and lingers. It does not explain the works, but listens to them. In doing so, the film reflects Maziarska’s own process: assembling, rearranging and remaining open to what images might become.
